Love Letters in Bellwoods

On August 24th, some pretty kids got together in Bellwoods and by candle light, pink and purple streamers, they wrote love letters. Unabashed, grandiose gestures of love, lust and longing swept the colourful pages of card stock, one by one. The letters are now posted on community notice board in Dufferin Grove Park for all passers-by to witness and marvel in. Next time you're at the Dufferin Grove Farmer's market, stop to take a peek!

CNE love letters

Balloons, Brides, and Butter

Apparently attendance at the CNE is lower and lower each year, but there were still lots of people there, even with the rainy weather. And even though I wasn't able to get a large size monkey in a banana this year, it was still fun to ride the ferris wheel and wander through the food building to end off the summer.

There were a lot of exhibits as well, including giant sand sculptures, a vegetable competition (with tables of potatoes and carrots on display with ribbons on most of them. They all looked the same), and an exhibit called "Love Lust and Longing at the CNE" featuring photos and relics (with a wall for people to share their stories) of couples at the Ex since the late 1800s (people really dressed up back then for the Ex, big hats and dresses and everything!).

So, did we try the butter?? Well, we weren't sure if we were up to the challenge, but apparently we think we have iron stomachs and aren't phased by even the unhealthiest of gastronomical experiments. 

Deep fried butter! $5 for 4, deep fried in batter and drizzled with sugary sauces. We were too curious not to at least try. The line up was too long and we were short on time, but a nice man donated one to us, and we split it four ways.

The salted butter was melted and created a hollow pocket with a bit of custardy-ness inside the fried dough. I can't say it wasn't tasty, the saltiness of the butter was good. However, maybe because I knew it was butter, I could not have eaten more than 1/4 of one. Already I felt like I had eaten a whole tray of cookies.

Worth it at least once though!

In other news, did anyone know the CNE was such a wedding hotspot?

The gosh darn perfect date!

If you're looking to jump back in time, listen to some classic oldies, and make out in the back seat, find your way to the 5 Drive In movie theatre on Ninth Line, just south of Dundas Street, Oakville - surrounded by grassy fields and jam packed with good clean fun!

And if you actually want to watch the movie, you can bring some lounge chairs and a blanket. Or if you have a van, you can park backwards, open your trunk, and lie down while you watch.

Catch a double bill for $11 a person (or get a deal on Tuesdays and Thursdays). I suggest you bring your own snacks (popcorn is $6!) and go to the bathroom first!

And if no one will make out with you, bringing a friend is just as fun, or you can just spend some quality time with your car.
